Flying Tips to Avoid RC Helicopter Crash

Remote Controlled Helicopter flying isn’t as easy as it seems. It takes a lot of skill and practice to be able to fly and pilot even a mini helicopter. This is not a sheer child’s toy, even though you may see kids flying them too. Remote controlled helicopter flying is a serious hobby that involves a lot a time and concentration. It isn’t exactly the easiest thing for some to learn how to take off and land properly. But once you get the hang of it, this can be a really cool diversion that can even have a calming and therapeutic effect. You’re the in charge; you’re in control of it so you should avoid crashes of your RC Helicopter.

The most common helicopter “minor crash” is a boom strike. This happen when the helicopter lands too hard and the main rotor blade strike the tail boom. It is advisable to have at least one extra tail boom on hand to avoiding waiting for parts. The person in control should have some practice time on a flight simulator. This will really reduce the number of crashes and save you a lot of money. The person should have a training gear on your RC helicopter. The training gear prevents the helicopter from tipping over and damaging itself, and additionally makes the helicopter more stable by slowing the cyclic response. And when choosing a place for a flight of your RC helicopter make sure there is no wind, or almost no wind. Wind will make the helicopter bob up and down, and if the helicopter doesn’t have a heading hold gyro, it will also spin the helicopter around, which makes learning hovering very difficult.

Before flying, you should perform preflight check the helicopter. Make sure all ball links are secure. And do a radio range check and make sure all servos move correctly. And in applying enough power you should do it very, very, very slowly for the helicopter to become light on the skids. And strictly, do not lift off if you accidentally lift off, you will probably panic and crash. So try not to lift off.

If the helicopter starts to wander too far, reduce the throttle to let the helicopter settle and stop moving. Don’t “chop” the throttle – reduce the throttle smoothly. Later on when you are actually hovering, chopping the throttle will cause the helicopter to crash. Whenever your batteries become weak, switch packs. Be sure to wait a little while between flights to allow the motor to cool down. And importantly, when your nerves become exhausted, take a break and don’t push yourself too hard, because you may lose concentration and crash the RC helicopter.
